Has anyone heard about the deaths and illness due to contaminated food here in Canada? I am also curious if anything like this has happened in the States with these foods, as I just get the Canadian side for now
MEAT PRODUCTS PRODUCED AT ESTABLISHMENT 97B MAY CONTAIN LISTERIA MONOCYTOGENES
Canadians should check the recalled food products on the list.

I thought it was just Maple Leaf Brands, and was unaware it included Schneiders, Burns and several other popular/common brands. It covers a very wide range of products too.

So many contaminated foods wonder about how they get that way. Seems like there are more than there used to be. Judi

Yes, we’ve had troubles with these things, too. Makes you wonder if anything is really safe!

yes, we have also but if it’s old throw lunch meat out and if it’s new even though it’s cold cuts always microwave for at least 15sec. and it will be ok.
It happens, but deaths are rare, usually just a food poisoning.
It seems to be happening more and more often here in the U.S.. So far, we haven’t ever had any of the products that have been recalled.
I haven’t heard of that one, although I occasionally buy Schneiders meats. We had a ground beef ecoli warning a couple weeks ago. I guess we have to grow our own meat as well as our own vegies now.
Yes we have those problems here and they are getting more common. We butcher a lot of our own meats but you can’t do it all. Then we have had it with produce also. Gets scary! You wonder why it is getting so common. Is the detection getting better so they are catching it now or are people slacking doing their jobs and there really is more cases.
@GrannyHappyNanny - This particular one is very nasty. Seems there are alot of questions with no real answers. The contamination is odorless and tasteless, no way to know from just looking or smelling. It is both heat and cold resistant, so freezing and cooking will not affect the virus. It takes up to 4 months before you might even show signs of having it. I know we have inspectors here that say they are doing their very best, but this somehow got through. Maple Leaf are taking the full blame where any Law cases are concerned, but while I do not think this is totally fair, I applaud them for taking the responsibility of all this contaminated food. With all the food scares lately, it makes one wonder just what is safe to eat nowdays.
@framaz - Wow that does sound like an awful one. How very scary! I can’t imagine have to wait that long for symptoms. I hope you never ate any of this meat.
